Pioneer Scout Reservation

Birding at Pioneer Scout Reservation

The relatively undeveloped nature of Pioneer Scout Reservation, its proximity to the La Su An Hunting and Fishing Preserve operated by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the varying habitat, provides the Reservation with a wide variety of avian species. The following list was complied by Jeff Grabmeier, an amateur birder, from visits to Pioneer over the last several years. Birders wishing to walk the Reservation need to obtain permission from the Ranger before entering. There may be some restrictions on hiking to the safety of the birders or the campers.

The Black Swamp Bird Observatory conducts hikes on the property. For information see their website www.bsbobird.org
