Other Ecology Programs Offered

Fishing Outpost Thursday, 4:00 PM, we will meet at Loftus Reservational Headquarters and journey to Lake La Su Ann, a managed fishery complex maintained by the State of Ohio. After checking in we will fish to about 8:30 PM, then head back to Camp Frontier. A cold supper will be provided. The number of Scouts permitted to attend will be limited by the availability of transportation. Bait (worms & crawlers) will be provided. Individuals need to bring their own fishing equipment. Everyone 16 years of age or older must possess a valid Ohio fishing license. This Outpost will not be conducted in the case of heavy rain. The assistance of an adult leader is required. Sign up for this Outpost will be bandied at Frontier Headquarters.

Fishing Equipment may be rented from the quartermaster by any Scoutmaster. Cost for fishing equipment rental is $1.00 for the week and tickets can be purchased in the Trading Post. A boat for fishing may be checked out form Ecology. The boat is not reservable. Youth must be swimmers and must have written permission from their Scoutmaster(s). Astronomy Observation Astronomy observation will be conducted in front of Loftus Reservational Headquarters every night from 10:00 PM until 11:00 PM Sunday through Thursday. Three of these nights of observation are necessary to achieve the Astronomy Merit Badge. Individuals not taking the merit badge are always welcome to attend. We have access to a 25" stationary telescope located near the Loflus Reservation Lodge.

Croakers & Peepers Hike Tuesday at 9:30 PM (weather permitting). Join us in a hike to learn about the various frogs and toads calling in the night. Meet at Ecology. Bring a flashlight. Wear clothing and shoes that can get wet and muddy.

Pioneer Naturalist and Pioneer Conservator Awards The Scout earns an appropriate merit badge from the Ecology Area and performs at least two hours of additional work assisting Ecology. Individuals desiring this award should register in Ecology on Monday.

The Ecology Area will conduct additional demonstrations and presentations after flags every week. A listing for the week will be distributed at the Sunday evening leaders meeting.

Big Fish Award the largest fish caught by a Scout in camp will receive an award. This award is presented weekly. Fishing poles are available to be signed out from the Quartermaster. Fishing equipment can only be signed out for one day at a time. A waiting list will be maintained by the Quartermaster.

Recycling throughout the camp are recycle containers, please recycle any pop cans or similar cans in these containers. When you set out your trash for pick up by the rangers indicate the bag with your recyclables. Bins will be available in each campsite for recycling.
